Pono pacific had been running a volunteer conservation program for students since 2001, and by 2006 they noticed that the interest was growing In response, they launched kupu to engage the community in preservation and to build up the next generation of conservation leaders. Pono pacific land management and its sister companies, kupu and poukihi, have relocated from kakaako to downtown honolulu.
